Our History Founded in 2005, Hindi Sangam has evolved to become a cornerstone of carrying forward cultural traditions in Oregon and the Northwest region. Through vibrant and engaging events, we bring the community together to celebrate the richness of Hindi language and Indian culture. Over the years, we have organized numerous Hindi-language cultural events, always encouraging active participation from the local community. One of our key milestones has been the successful hosting of Kavi Sammelan, an event dedicated to the recital of original Hindi poems by local authors. This event has since evolved into Sahitya Sandhya (Literary Evening), incorporating elements such as short plays alongside poetry recitals. We’ve also had the honor of inviting esteemed poets, including the renowned Ashok Chakradhar, to inspire and engage our audiences in Portland. Expanding our repertoire, we have hosted popular entertainment shows, including performances by celebrated stand-up comedians like Amit Tandon and Abhishek Upmanyu, both of whom drew enthusiastic crowds and brought laughter and joy to our community. The centerpiece of Hindi Sangam’s programming is our annual Deepawali Samaroh. This flagship cultural event is a grand celebration of Diwali, featuring a diverse lineup of performances including dances, plays, skits, quiz shows, songs, and activities for adults, children, and families. What makes this event truly special is its grassroots nature—it is entirely volunteer-driven and showcases the incredible talent of local artists. Even during the pandemic, we kept the tradition alive, hosting the event virtually and continuing to connect the community during challenging times. Our Biggest Victory A major milestone for our community is that Sunset High School will now be offering Hindi as a World Language option starting in the Academic Year 2025-26. This exciting news was officially shared at the school’s Curriculum Night. With this addition, Sunset High School now offers French, Spanish, Japanese, and Hindi as part of its World Language program. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering support and advocacy of our community members, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Together, we continue to celebrate and promote the richness of our language and culture. Thank you for your ongoing support in making this dream a reality! Hindi Sangam remains committed to promoting and preserving the Hindi language and Indian culture, fostering a sense of belonging and cultural pride within the community.
