Jigyasa – A word from our Quiz Masters

Thank your for attending Kishore Kumar themed Jigyasa event. As you witnessed the fun-filled super-interesting and information-rich quiz program, you sure realized how much extensive research our QuizMasters – Balaji Murthy and Malini Kanth did to bring this quality program to you all. While working with them they provided me additional information, which provided me the insights into their thinking. I am just reproducing here the “Insights and making of Jigyasa” from Balaji and Malini.

Hello friends, we want to share some of the details of thinking in making this quiz. With the understanding that it is impossible to do justice to such a multi-faceted personality like Kishore in a single quiz, we tried hard to keep the balance between keeping the quiz easy and accessible to the participants while simultaneously exploring as much about Kishore’s work and career as possible. This involved seeking out the eras he worked, his work as actor, composer and singer as well as the large number of actors and composers he worked with. An additional goal was to share interesting tidbits that people may not come across in the normal course and incorporate them in clues and audience questions. Finally, we wanted to focus on audio/visual clues to maximize audience interest and audience engagement. A quick glance at the coverage

• 1980s: 5

50s and 60s were mostly Kishore and Dev Anand starrers

Songs of 18 different composers –

• RD Burman: 5
• SD Burman: 4
• OP Naiyyar: 3
• Kalyanji-Anandji: 3

Songs filmed on 17 different actors –

• Kishore: 11
• Rishi Kapoor/Dev/Rajesh Khanna: 3 each
• Amitabh/Shashi/Parikshit: 2 each

Above do not include audience questions, as there was some rarer stuff there, which was by design.

Hope this helps explain how we went about our preparation and hopefully that bears out in the final product. Most quizzes are generally much more drawn from only the most popular selections, and do not explore beyond the obvious. We wanted to use the opportunity we got to fill that gap.

We certainly heard a lot of positive feedback from people who talked to us personally. We did notice that many potential and regular attendees did not attend. It may have been due to the school holidays and/or nice weather that people wanted use for doing other things.
